Devon Energy Leads Daily Permitting with Six New Williams County Wells
The North Dakota DMR approved seven new drilling permits yesterday, with Devon Energy securing six across two fields, while a producer was officially abandoned.
The North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources approved seven new drilling permits in its latest daily activity report, with Devon Energy Williston L.L.C. accounting for six of them. EOG Resources Inc. filed for the seventh permit.
Devon Energy's approved permits are concentrated in Williams County. The operator received approval for the LIPPERT 1-12-13-241H well in the Hardscrabble field. The bulk of its activity, however, is focused on the Buford field, where it secured permits for five wells named FURY 2-1-6-5F1H through FURY 2-1-6-5F5H. These filings suggest the development of a multi-well pad in that area.
EOG Resources' single approved permit is for the WEST CLARK 135-25 13H well, located in McKenzie County's Clarks Creek field.
The report also listed four permit renewals for wells where operators are seeking to modify drilling plans. Enerplus Resources USA Corporation is renewing permit #38588 for the QUEEN 152-94-29-32-LL well in McKenzie County's Antelope field, noting a proposed drillback outside of the spacing unit. Marathon Oil Company renewed #41026 for the BATSON 21-17H well in Dunn County's Bailey field, citing a location outside of the spacing unit. Phoenix Operating LLC renewed #42390 for the FEDOR 7-61HF-LL well in Williams County's New Home field, also for a proposed drillback outside of the spacing unit.
In administrative updates, one well was listed as a producer now abandoned. Burnett Energy Inc.'s HEFFLEFINGER 34-1 well in Williams County has been officially abandoned.
The DMR reported one status change for a confidential well. Permit #42318, operated by Hess Bakken Investments II, LLC for the GO-LINDSETH-157-96-31 19H-4 well in Williams County, was released from confidential status. Additionally, Devon Energy's BARBARA 31-30F3H well in McKenzie County's Grinnell field, under permit #41485, was also released from confidential status.
The day's activity underscores continued permitting work in the core Bakken counties of Williams and McKenzie. The high number of permits for a single operator, Devon Energy, highlights its active development program in the region.
