Devon Energy Permits Five-Well Pad in McKenzie County's CAMP Field

The North Dakota DMR approved five new permits for Devon and reported a Burlington well flowing over 1,300 barrels of oil per day.

The North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources (DMR) approved five new drilling permits on Monday, May 11, 2026, all for a single pad operated by Devon Energy Williston, L.L.C. The agency's daily activity report also highlighted the completion of a high-producing well for Burlington Resources.

All five approved permits are for the Lindvig pad in McKenzie County's CAMP field. The permits, numbered 42921 through 42925, are for the Lindvig 23-22-21-20F 1H through 5H wells. This batch approval signals Devon's commitment to multi-well pad development in a core area of the Bakken.

In other permitting activity, the DMR processed four permit renewals, all for XTO Energy Inc. in McKenzie County's North Tobacco Garden field. The renewed permits for the Lawlar 34X-10H, 34X-10D, and 34X-10HXE wells are listed as 'Confidential'.

The sole well completion reported was a strong producer. Burlington Resources Oil & Gas Company LP completed the Phantom Backbone 7D-ULW well in McKenzie County. The well reported an initial production rate of 1,387 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) and 459 barrels of water per day (BWPD).

The DMR also reported several wells released from confidential status, providing new public data on recent activity. Hess Bakken Investments II, LLC had one well, the BW-JLP-149-101-2321H-3 in McKenzie County, changed to confidential status.

Conversely, five wells were released from confidential status. These include a Devon Energy well, the Marvin 27-34 XW 1H in McKenzie County's CAMP field. Hess had a well, the EN-Rohde-LE-157-94-3625H-1, released in Mountrail County's Big Butte field.

Other releases include a Hunt Oil Company well, the KandiYohi 159-90-5-17H-2, in Burke County's Vanville field, and an Enerplus Resources USA Corporation well, the MHA Paddlefish 4893 31-14 4T, in Dunn County. Kraken Operating, LLC also had a well, the Turbodiesel LE 19-30-31 #10H, released in Williams County's Big Stone field.

Monday's activity underscores continued operational focus in the Bakken's core counties, with McKenzie County seeing the majority of new permits, a significant well completion, and multiple status changes.
