Devon Energy Secures Four-Pad Permit in McKenzie County
North Dakota regulators approved five new drilling permits, with Devon's CAMP field project leading activity.
The North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources approved five new drilling permits in its latest daily activity report, with Devon Energy Williston L.L.C. accounting for the majority of the filings. Four of the five permits were for a single pad location operated by Devon in the prolific CAMP field.
According to the DMR report, Devon Energy received permits #42938 through #42941 for the Lindvig North 14-15-16-17F 1H through 4H wells. All four wells are located in McKenzie County, North Dakota's top oil-producing county, within the established CAMP field. The permits indicate plans for a four-well pad development, a common efficiency strategy in the Bakken formation.
The fifth permit, #41755, was issued to Koda Resources Operating LLC for the Stout 1336-5BH well in Divide County. The DMR filing did not list a specific field for this well location.
The report also listed confidential status changes for six previously permitted wells, signaling that operators have begun drilling but are not yet required to publicly disclose specific details. Oasis Petroleum North America LLC filed for confidential status on two wells: the Owan 5402 43-26 2B and 3B. Both are located in Williams County within the Painted Woods field.
Additionally, Phoenix Operating LLC filed for confidential status on four wells: the Woods 35-26-23 1H, 2H, 3H, and 4H. All four are located in Divide County within the SKABO field. This represents another four-well pad development moving into the drilling phase.
The day's activity underscores continued, targeted development in the core areas of the Bakken. McKenzie County remains the focal point for new permitting, while operators are also advancing multi-well projects in neighboring Williams and Divide counties. The shift of these six wells to confidential status indicates near-term drilling activity is set to increase for Oasis and Phoenix.
