DMR Approves Five New Bakken Permits, Nine Renewals Filed

Petro-Hunt leads new filings with three confidential Billings County wells, while Rockport reports strong initial production from three McKenzie County completions.

The North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources approved five new drilling permits and nine permit renewals in its latest daily activity report. Petro-Hunt, L.L.C. was the most active applicant, filing for three new confidential locations in Billings County.

The new permits include Petro-Hunt's #43228, #43229, and #43230, all designated for the 'CONFIDENTIAL' field. Oasis Petroleum North America LLC received permit #43227 for the IVERSON 5202 43-19 2B well in the GROUND field of McKenzie County. True Oil LLC received permit #43231 for the SUPERIOR FEDERAL 11-32 32-8 TF1H well in the BOWLINE field, also in McKenzie County.

Oasis Petroleum North America LLC also accounted for all nine permit renewals filed. The renewals, #31746 through #31751, are for a series of wells named CINDY BLIKRE in the LINDAHL field of Williams County. Permit renewals allow operators to maintain their drilling rights for locations.

In well completion data, Rockport Energy Solutions LLC reported strong initial production for three new McKenzie County wells. According to the report, the MERRITT 18-19-30 1H (#42201) flowed 969 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) and 4,235 barrels of water per day (BWPD). The MERRITT 18-19-30 2H (#42202) flowed 950 BOPD and 3,876 BWPD. The ANNIE 7-6-31 2H (#42203) was the top producer of the group, flowing 1,135 BOPD and 4,433 BWPD. All three wells are located in the same section: NE NW 18-146N-98W.

The report also listed one filing for additional information. Hess Bakken Investments II, LLC submitted data for well #42010, the BB-STATE-LN-151-96-2526H-1, located in McKenzie County.

The new permit activity shows continued interest in both the western core of the Bakken in McKenzie County and the more central region of Billings County. The high initial production rates from Rockport's completions highlight the ongoing productivity of the McKenzie County area.

The North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources (DMR) reported four permit renewals in its daily activity report for Thursday, September 3, 2026, all filed by True Oil LLC.
