DMR Approves Five New Permits for EOG, Murfin, Devon in Mountrail, Dunn, McKenzie

The North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources approved five new drilling permits in its latest daily activity report, with activity concentrated in Mountrail, Dunn, and McKenzie counties. EOG Resources secured two permits, Murfin Drilling Company two, and Devon Energy Williston one.

EOG Resources' new permits are both in Mountrail County's Parshall field. The permits are for the Burke 414-3416H and Burke 413-3421H wells. In Dunn County, Murfin Drilling Company received approval for the Kinzel 1-32H well in the St. Anthony field and the Kinzel 1-6H well in the Dickinson field. The single permit granted in the core McKenzie County area went to Devon Energy Williston for the Albert South 34-33-32 2H well in the Foreman Butte field.

The report also listed seven permit renewals. Hunt Oil Company renewed two permits for its Smoky Butte 160-100-33-28H3 and H4 wells in Williams County, both noted as being located outside of a spacing unit. Five previously approved permits were canceled. Zavanna Energy Operating, LLC, canceled four permits for its Hunter 29-17 wells (8TFH, 6H, 4TFH, 2H) in McKenzie County. Koda Resources Operating, LLC, canceled the permit for its Amber 3422-2BH well in Divide County.

Three wells were moved to "additional information" status, according to the DMR report. Hess Bakken Investments II, LLC, moved two Williams County wells—GO-PETERS-157-97-3220H-5 and GO-RAY-157-97-3321H-4—to this category. Devon Energy Williston also moved its Owan Trust South 32-33-34F 1H well in Williams County to "additional information" status.

Two wells were released from confidential status, making their production data publicly available. Enerplus Resources USA Corporation's Elephant 148-94-03A-10H well in Dunn County's McGregory Buttes field is now public. Koda Resources Operating, LLC's Stout 1336-8BH well in Divide County's Fertile Valley field was also released from confidential status.

The new permit activity highlights ongoing drilling by major operators in established Bakken fields. EOG's continued focus on Mountrail County and Devon's activity in McKenzie County underscore operator interest in these core areas.
