Petro-Hunt L.L.C. secured two permits (#43218, #43219) for confidential locations in Billings County.

Ten permits were renewed, with Marathon Oil Company accounting for six in a single Dunn County spacing unit. The renewed Marathon permits—ANITA USA 31-14H (#38471), ELVA USA 21-14H (#38472), CAROLYN USA 21-14H (#38473), SHELL USA 21-14TFH (#38474), JUDITH USA 31-14TFH (#38475), and TREASURE USA 41-14TFH (#38476)—are all in the NW NW of section 14-147N-94W within the McGregory Buttes field. Koda Resources Operating, LLC also renewed two permits (#40994, #40995) for the STOUT wells in Divide County's Fertile Valley field, with the DMR noting the locations are outside the standard spacing unit.

Two wells completed by Burlington Resources Oil & Gas Company LP reported initial production. The SANMURI 4B-UTFH-ULW (#36698) in McKenzie County flowed 843 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) and 1,036 barrels of water per day (BWPD). The MURI 2D-UTFH (#36701), also in McKenzie County, produced 500 BOPD and 947 BWPD.

The DMR report listed additional filings related to confidential status changes. Hunt Oil Company filed for six wells (#40891, #40892, #41965, #41966, #41967, #41968) in Mountrail County's Oakland area. Hess Bakken Investments II, LLC filed for two wells (#42007, #42008) in McKenzie County.

The activity highlights ongoing operations across the core Bakken region, with new permits in McKenzie, Divide, and Billings counties. The concentration of Marathon Oil's renewals in Dunn County indicates sustained development planning in that area. The strong initial production figures from Burlington Resources' McKenzie County wells underscore the continued productivity of the region.

DMR Daily Activity Report Shows No New Filings for Saturday

The North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources (DMR) daily activity report for Saturday, August 22, 2026, contained no new filings, according to the agency's data. The daily report typically lists new regulatory actions, including drilling permits approved, wells spudded, completions reported, and wells plugged. The absence of new activity is a normal occurrence, particularly on weekends and holidays when administrative filing and field work slow down. For Bakken operators and service companies, these reports provide a near-real-time pulse on drilling and completion activity across the state. Consistent periods with no filings can indicate temporary slowdowns, often tied to weekends, weather, or logistical planning. The next report, expected later today, will reflect any filings submitted on Sunday. The broader weekly and monthly DMR reports offer a more comprehensive view of industry trends in the Williston Basin.
