The North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources approved four new drilling permits on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, according to the agency's daily activity report. Hunt Oil Company was the most active filer, securing three of the four new permits.

Hunt Oil's new permits are concentrated in Burke County. Permit #42856 is for the DIMOND 160-91-36-24H-4 well in the Dimond field, located in SE SW Section 31-160N-90W. The company also received permits #42857 and #42858 for the KANDIYOHI 159-90-6-13H 1 and KANDIYOHI 159-90-6-18H 2 wells, both in the Thompson Lake field at the same legal location: SE SW Section 31-160N-90W.

The fourth permit, #42855, was approved for Hess Bakken Investments II, LLC. The permit is for the RS-JONES- 156-92-3532H-1 well in Mountrail County's Ross field.

The report also listed seven previously permitted wells that had changes to their confidential status. Three operators had wells move off confidential status, indicating drilling or completion activity has likely concluded.

Enerplus Resources USA Corporation had four wells in Dunn County's Little Knife field change status. The wells are HAMILTON 146-97-35-26-5H (#41101), HAMILTON 146-97-35-26-6H (#41102), HAMILTON 146-97-35-26-7H (#41103), and HAMILTON 146-97-35-26-8H-ELL (#41380). All are located in Lot 4, Section 02-145N-97W.

Hess Bakken Investments II, LLC, had two wells in Williams County's Wheelock field change status. The wells are GO-SEATON- 156-98-0607H-3 (#40793) and GO-SEATON- 156-98-0607H-5 (#41442), both located in SW SW Section 34-157N-98W.

Additionally, one well for XTO Energy Inc. changed status. The well is the GBU APOLLO 14X-12D-S (#41791) in Williams County's Grinnell field, located in SW SW Section 12-154N-96W.

The new permit activity shows a focus on the northwestern regions of the Bakken formation, with operations in Mountrail and Burke counties. The status changes for Hess, Enerplus, and XTO highlight ongoing development and well completion work in the core areas of Williams and Dunn counties.
