The North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources approved six new drilling permits and four permit renewals in its latest daily activity report, according to filings from Thursday, June 11, 2026.

Phoenix Operating LLC was the most active applicant, securing four new permits for a project in Burke County. The permits, numbered #43023 through #43026, are for the WILLA 6-31-30-19 1H through 4H wells, all located in the SE SW of Section 6-161N-92W within the Black Slough field. This represents a significant four-well development program in the northwestern region of the Bakken formation.

A single new permit was issued to Hess Bakken Investments II, LLC. Permit #43022 is for a well named HA-STATE- 152-95-1621H-11U, located in McKenzie County's Hawkeye field. The sixth new permit went to Marlo Operating Company, LLC. Permit #41258 is for a location named TOSCO BRANCH 2 in Bowman County, filed under a 'CONFIDENTIAL' wildcat field designation, indicating exploratory activity.

In addition to new permits, the DMR processed four permit renewals for XTO Energy Inc. All four renewals—#25806, #25807, #25808, and #25809—are for wells in the Twin State Federal project (34X-36D, 34X-36H, 34X-36C, 34X-36G) located in the SW SE of Section 36-153N-97W in McKenzie County's Sand Creek field. These wells retain their 'CONFIDENTIAL' status.

The report also listed additional information for three previously filed wells operated by Phoenix Operating LLC. The STANLEY 30-31-6 1H, 2H, and 3H wells, located in the NW NE of Section 30-158N-91W in Mountrail County, were noted. This update often relates to a change in confidential status or other administrative filings, signaling continued development on that pad.

The day's activity highlights ongoing operations across multiple core Bakken counties. McKenzie County, a perennial top producer, saw activity from both Hess and XTO.
