The North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources approved four new drilling permits on Monday, April 13, all filed by Enerplus Resources USA Corporation. According to the DMR Daily Activity Report, all four permits are for wells in Williams County's Lone Tree Lake field.

The approved permits are for the Upssalir 5799 41-11 2B and the Opsal Federal 5799 42-11 2B, 3B, and 4B wells. All are located in Section 11 of Township 157 North, Range 99 West. This batch of permits indicates concentrated development activity by Enerplus on a specific pad in the western Bakken.

In other activity, several wells previously listed as "confidential" have had their status changed. Five wells operated by Whiting Oil and Gas Corporation have moved to "permit to drill" status, according to the report. These wells are located in Williams and McKenzie counties.

The Whiting wells include the P Evans 154-99-2-4-28-1H in Williams County; the Koala 14-32HU and Koala 31-2H in McKenzie County; the Vance 44-9TFH in Williams County; and the Moen 41-2-5H in Williams County. This shift in status typically precedes the spudding of a well, pointing to imminent drilling operations by the operator.

Additionally, Oasis Petroleum North America LLC's Thelen 5297 11-6 4B well in McKenzie County was released from confidential status. Hess Bakken Investments II, LLC also had the BW-Sharen Lynor- 149-100-2032H-3 well in McKenzie County's Ellsworth field released from confidential status.

The day's filings show a focus on the core Bakken counties of Williams and McKenzie. Enerplus's new permits are all within a single section, highlighting the continued trend of multi-well pad development to maximize efficiency. The status changes for Whiting, Oasis, and Hess wells indicate these operators are advancing projects toward the drilling phase.

Monday's report did not list any new permits for wells classified as "confidential" at the time of filing.
