EOG Dominates Daily Permits with Four Mountrail County Wells
North Dakota regulators approved four new horizontal well permits for EOG Resources, while five other operators filed confidential status changes.
The North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources approved four new drilling permits in its latest daily activity report, all filed by EOG Resources in Mountrail County. According to the DMR report, the permits are for wells in the Alger field: Ross 58-0615H, Ross 115-0515H, Ross 59-0515H, and Ross 116-0515H.
EOG Resources' concentrated activity underscores its continued focus on the Mountrail County portion of the Bakken formation. The four permits represent the entirety of the state's new permit approvals for this reporting period.
Beyond new permits, the DMR report listed confidential status changes for wells operated by five other companies. These filings indicate operators have moved these wells to a confidential status, typically ahead of initial production data.
In Williams County, Oasis Petroleum North America LLC filed two confidential status changes for the Davidson 5795 31-33 5B and Davidson 5795 31-33 6BX wells in the Tioga field. According to the report, both wells are located in Section 33, Township 157 North, Range 95 West.
Devon Energy Williston, L.L.C., also reported a confidential status change in Mountrail County. The well, Scha 33-34 5TFH in the Alger field, is in Section 33, Township 156 North, Range 92 West.
In McKenzie County, Whiting Oil and Gas Corporation filed a confidential status change for the Cliffside Federal 5103 41-7 2B well in the Assiniboine field, located in Lot 4 of Section 7, Township 151 North, Range 103 West.
Finally, XTO Energy Inc filed a confidential status change in Williams County for the Gbu Sophia Federal 44X-10B-N well in the Grinnell field, located in the Southeast Quarter of the Southeast Quarter of Section 10, Township 154 North, Range 96 West.
The daily activity report provides a snapshot of regulatory filings and is a key indicator of near-term drilling activity in the Bakken. The new permits for EOG Resources signal imminent drilling operations in Mountrail County, while the confidential status changes for other operators suggest several wells are nearing or have recently begun production, with data withheld from public release for six months as per state rules.
