EOG, Hess, Enerplus Secure Six New Bakken Permits; Two Wells Released from Confidential Status

The North Dakota DMR approved drilling permits in three key counties yesterday, while two high-performing wells had their initial production data made public.

The North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources approved six new drilling permits on Thursday, August 27, 2026, with activity concentrated in the western core of the Bakken. The permits were filed by EOG Resources, Hess Bakken Investments II, and Enerplus Resources USA Corporation, according to the agency's Daily Activity Report.

EOG Resources received one permit (#43262) for the West Clark 9-2513H well in McKenzie County's Clarks Creek field. Hess Bakken Investments II, LLC, secured two permits (#42289, #42290) for wells named EN-Van Berkom-157-93-2627H-2U and -3U in Mountrail County. Enerplus was the most active filer, receiving three permits (#43263-43265) for its Red Panda 5700 43-9 2B, 3B, and 4B wells, all located in the same section (SW SE 9- 157N-100W) in Williams County's Marmon field.

The report also included updates on wells released from confidential status, revealing initial production data. A Hess well, SC-Mari-153-98-2223H-8 in Williams County, was released from confidential status but no production figures were listed.

Two wells completed by Oasis Petroleum North America LLC had their data made public. The Troon Federal 5602 12-23 4B well in Williams County's Bonetraill field was listed as a producing well completed. The Prestwick Federal 5602 12-23 3B well, also in Williams County, reported an initial production rate of 770 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) and 2,153 barrels of water per day (BWPD).

Separately, a well operated by Prima Exploration, Inc., the Gummy Bear 2H in Divide County, showed strong early performance with 2,205 BOPD and 9,591 BWPD. The report also noted an update for an XTO Energy Inc. well, the GBU Artemis 32X-13A-S in Williams County's Grinnell field, though no new status or production data was provided.

The day's filings indicate continued drilling interest by major operators in the established production corridors of McKenzie, Mountrail, and Williams counties. The release of initial production data for the Oasis and Prima wells provides a snapshot of well performance in the region.
