EOG Secures Lone New Permit as Devon, Hess File Confidential Notices

The North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources approved one new drilling permit on Tuesday, July 7, according to the agency's daily activity report. EOG Resources, Inc. received approval for the Clearwater J 42-3024H well in the Clear Water field of Mountrail County.

Beyond the single new permit, the report detailed several filings by operators to change the confidential status of existing wells. Hess Bakken Investments II, LLC filed a notice for its GO-ZONA-157-98-3523H-4 well in Williams County. Similarly, Devon Energy Williston, L.L.C filed notices for two wells, the Daytona 6-5-4 2H and the Daytona 6-5-4 4H, both located in Lot 6 of Williams County.

The DMR also reported two wells released from confidential status, making their production data publicly available. Devon Energy Williston, L.L.C. released the Sanders 34-27 6H well in the Ragged Butte area of McKenzie County. Koda Resources Operating, LLC released the ALE 24-1 SWD disposal well in the Daneville area of Divide County.

The day's activity highlights continued operational focus in the core Bakken counties. Williams County, a perennial top producer, saw multiple filings from Hess and Devon. McKenzie County, home to the released Sanders well, remains a central hub for production. The single new permit for EOG in Mountrail County indicates ongoing, though measured, development in the region.

The confidential status process allows operators to withhold well production data for a period, typically six months, to protect competitive information. The filing of a notice often precedes the release of that data, while a release from confidential status marks the point at which initial production figures become public.
