The North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources approved five new drilling permits on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, all filed by Formentera Operations LLC for wells in Burke County, according to the agency's daily activity report. The state also granted renewals for five existing permits.

All five new permits, numbered 43184 through 43188, are for the PETTIGREW-16-33-PGN pad in a confidential field. The filings indicate Formentera Operations is preparing to drill a multi-well pad, with permits for the S610HX, S512HF, S614HF, S515HF, and S618HF wells. This concentrated activity highlights continued operator interest in the northwestern reaches of the Bakken formation.

In the permit renewal category, five wells saw their permits extended. Burlington Resources Oil & Gas Company LP had one permit renewed for the PATTON 1A TFH well in Dunn County. Stephens Williston, LLC DBA SEG Williston, LLC secured renewals for two permits in Mountrail County: the PRATTSVILLE FEDERAL 15590-0607-2HSL and PRATTSVILLE FEDERAL 15590-0607-3H wells. Both renewals were noted as being for a proposed drillback outside of the designated spacing unit.

Additionally, Koda Resources Operating, LLC received renewals for two permits in Divide County for the BOCK 1732-5BH and BOCK 1732-6BH wells. These renewals were also flagged for a location outside of the spacing unit, according to the DMR report.

The report also listed six permits with updates filed under "Additional Information," which typically notes changes to a well's confidential status. These filings were concentrated in the core Bakken counties of McKenzie and Williams. Whiting Oil and Gas Corporation submitted updates for three permits in McKenzie County: the TARPON FEDERAL 44-19-2RTF, ROLLA FEDERAL 21-3-3TFH, and TARPON FEDERAL 44-19-4TFH and 4H wells. Oasis Petroleum North America LLC filed updates for two permits: the AAGVIK 5298 42-23 8T well in McKenzie County and the HOFF 5700 43-24 2BX well in Williams County.

Tuesday's activity underscores that while new permitting was focused on a single operator and location, ongoing development and administrative work continues across the basin's established producing areas.
