Hess, Enerplus Secure New Bakken Permits; Four SWD Renewals Filed

North Dakota regulators approved two new drilling permits and processed four saltwater disposal well renewals in Friday's filings.

The North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources approved two new drilling permits and processed four saltwater disposal well renewals in its daily activity report for Friday, June 12, 2026. Hess Bakken Investments II, LLC and Enerplus Resources USA Corporation were the sole operators securing new permits to drill.

Hess Bakken Investments II, LLC received permit #43027 for the HA-STATE- 152-95-1621H-11U well in McKenzie County's Hawkeye field. Enerplus Resources USA Corporation was approved for permit #43028 for the SUN 5899 11-28 2BHP well in Williams County's Ellisville field, according to the DMR report.

The report also listed four permit renewals for saltwater disposal (SWD) wells, all filed by midstream service companies. Falcon Midstream Services, LLC was active with three separate SWD renewals across three counties: the ARNSON SWD 5603 24-8 in Williams County's Bull Butte field, the ARDITH LUCY SWD 5892 13-10 in Mountrail County's Cottonwood field, and the MYRNA LOY SWD 6092 44-6 in Burke County's Lucy field. Zavanna Energy Operating, LLC filed for a renewal of its HELTON 1 SWD well in McKenzie County's Foreman Butte field.

In additional status changes, three wells were released from confidential status. Two Hess Bakken Investments II, LLC wells, the BW-IDA-LN-149-101-1416H-1 in McKenzie County and the GO-PETERS-LE-157-97-3220H-1 in Williams County, along with the OASIS PETROLEUM NORTH AMERICA LLC RELLA E 5303 13-17 4B well in Williams County, had their confidential status lifted.

Furthermore, the DMR reported that the ENERPLUS RESOURCES USA CORPORATION ZEBRA 148-94-03A-10H-LL well in Dunn County's McGregory Buttes field was also released from confidential status.

The day's filings show continued administrative activity from operators and midstream companies, with new drilling permits concentrated in the core Bakken counties of McKenzie and Williams. The multiple SWD renewals highlight ongoing produced water management operations across the Williston Basin.
