The North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources approved three new drilling permits on Friday, May 1, according to the agency's daily activity report. Iron Oil Operating LLC was the most active operator, securing two of the three permits.

Iron Oil Operating's permits are for the TWIN TRACTOR 1-14-2H and TWIN TRACTOR 3-23-35H wells, both located in Mountrail County within the prolific Parshall field. The third permit was issued to Zavanna Energy Operating LLC for the BOXER 22-3 11H well in Williams County. The Zavanna permit is listed for a 'CONFIDENTIAL' field.

The report also detailed nine wells that were released from confidential status, revealing previously undisclosed operator activity. Hess Bakken Investments II, LLC had two wells released in Mountrail County's Big Butte field: the EN-ROHDE- 157-94-3625H-2 and EN-ROHDE- 157-94-3625H-3. Devon Energy Williston, L.L.C. also had two wells, the BARBARA 31-30F 6TFH and BARBARA 31-30F 2TFH, released in McKenzie County.

Other operators with wells coming off confidential status include Oasis Petroleum North America LLC for the OWAN TRUST NORTH 29-28-27F 1H in Williams County; Burlington Resources Oil & Gas Company LP for the SIVERTSON 6H in McKenzie County's Elidah field; Hunt Oil Company for the BURKE 155-90-36-25H- 2 and MEYER 155-89-31-30H- 3 in Mountrail County's Parshall field; and Silver Hill Energy Operating for the TEXAS E 158-92-8-20-3MBHX in Mountrail County's Cottonwood field.

The new permits and status changes indicate continued drilling focus in the core areas of the Bakken. Mountrail County, home to the Parshall field, was the center of activity with two new permits and five wells released from confidential status. McKenzie and Williams counties also showed sustained operator interest.

The release of wells from confidential status typically follows the completion of initial production testing, providing the market with new data on well performance in specific areas. This data is closely watched by operators and mineral owners for trends in productivity across the basin.
