The North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources approved six new drilling permits in its latest daily activity report, with all permits going to a single operator for a confidential project. The agency also processed three permit renewals and two confidential status changes.

Kraken Operating LLC was the sole recipient of new permits approved on Thursday, October 1. All six permits are for horizontal wells in Williams County within fields listed as ‘CONFIDENTIAL’. The permits are for the ROUGHNECK 1-2-3 #1H, #2H, #3H, and #4H, as well as the ROUGHNECK 12-11-10 #5H and ROUGHNECK 12-11-12 #6H, according to the DMR report. This concentrated batch of permits signals a significant new drilling campaign by Kraken in a specific area of the Bakken formation.

The DMR also listed three permit renewals, indicating operators are moving forward with previously approved locations. Zavanna Energy Operating, LLC renewed a permit for its LOT2 3-155-100 well in the Stony Creek field of Williams County. Devon Energy Williston, LLC renewed a permit for the AUNE SWD #1 well in the Sugar Beet field, also in Williams County. Formentera Operations, LLC renewed a permit for the LIG2 SWD 1 well in the Lignite field of Burke County, according to the report.

In the additional information section, the DMR noted activity related to confidential status for two existing permits. Oasis Petroleum North America LLC has a filing for its SPYGLASS FEDERAL 5793 24-13 3B well in Mountrail County. Devon Energy Williston, L.L.C. also has a filing for its TRANS AM 3-2-1 1H well in Williams County, the report states.

The day's activity underscores continued operational focus in the core Bakken region, particularly in Williams County. The approval of six new permits for a single multi-well pad project is a notable increase in permitted activity for a single day. Permit renewals show sustained planning by other operators like Zavanna, Devon, and Formentera across Williams and Burke counties.
