1. HEADLINES
Oil prices are sharply higher today, with Brent crude up over 5% to $113.90 and WTI up 3.36% to $105.37. The primary driver is a significant escalation in the Strait of Hormuz. According to OilPrice.com and Rigzone, the U.S. launched "Project Freedom," sending U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyers into the Arabian Gulf to guide commercial vessels through the strait. Two U.S.-flagged merchant ships successfully transited. Iran claimed it fired warning shots at a U.S. warship, a claim CENTCOM denied. The operation aims to break a near-total, two-month blockade by Iran that has trapped roughly 2,000 vessels.
