DAILY BRIEFING: July 9, 2026
1. Headlines
Oil prices are sharply lower today, erasing yesterday's gains. As of midday, WTI crude is down 2.01% to $72.04, with Brent falling 1.95% to $76.50. The Bakken differential stands at -$3.42 vs WTI. According to Rigzone, this sell-off comes despite a second day of U.S. airstrikes on Iranian targets, which had initially driven prices to two-week highs. The Energy Information Administration (EIA) reported a weekly build in U.S. crude oil inventories, with stocks (excluding the SPR) rising to 411.4 million barrels.
