Oil markets are retreating Friday afternoon despite a week dominated by renewed Middle East supply risks. As of midday, WTI is trading at $71.25, down 1.15%, while Brent is at $75.73, down 0.75%. The Bakken differential stands at -$3.42 vs. WTI. According to OilPrice.com, the renewed U.S.-Iran strikes and attacks on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz have revived the geopolitical risk premium, pushing Brent above $76 earlier in the week. However, Rigzone reports that crude is now sliding as traders, including strategists at Macquarie, bet the conflict will remain "relatively short-lived."
