Oil prices are surging this morning as a new supply disruption in the Middle East rattles global markets. According to OilPrice.com and Rigzone, Brent crude spiked to over $108 per barrel in Asian trading, with WTI following to over $103. The immediate catalyst is Saudi Arabia’s precautionary shutdown of its critical East-West oil pipeline following drone attacks launched from Iraq. This pipeline, with a capacity of roughly 4 million barrels per day, is the Kingdom's primary route to bypass the now largely closed Strait of Hormuz, exporting crude from the Red Sea port of Yanbu.
