North Dakota's Department of Mineral Resources approved one new drilling permit on Thursday, April 23, according to the agency's daily activity report. The single approval was for Continental Resources Inc. for the Langved 3-2H well in Williams County, which was filed under a 'Confidential' status.

The report showed a significantly higher volume of activity in other regulatory categories, including nine permit renewals and seven permit cancellations. Whiting Oil and Gas Corporation renewed two permits for the Roggenbuck 43-24-3H and 43-24-2TFH wells in Mountrail County's Sanish field.

Oasis Petroleum North America LLC was responsible for five of the seven cancelled permits. All five were for wells named "Domalakes 6092" in the same section of Burke County (SE NE 16-160N-92W). The company also cancelled a permit for the Owan 5402 43-26 4B well in Williams County. Empire North Dakota LLC cancelled its permit for the Merganser 29 1H well in Bottineau County.

The DMR report listed 17 wells that had their confidential status updated. Twelve wells were newly designated as confidential, shielding their production data from public release for a period. According to the filings, Enerplus Resources USA Corporation placed five "Crying Tree" wells in Dunn County on confidential status. Oasis Petroleum added three "Davidson" wells in Williams County to the confidential list.

Additionally, Koda Resources Operating, LLC designated three wells in Divide County as confidential, and Whiting Oil and Gas Corporation added three wells in McKenzie County. One well operated by Koda Resources, the Amber 2133-1BH, was also listed in this status update category.

Two wells were released from confidential status, making their production data public. Hess Bakken Investments II, LLC's BW-Barbara Ann-LE-149-100-1705H-1 well in McKenzie County's Ellsworth field and XTO Energy Inc's GBU Apollo Federal 14X-12D-N well in Williams County's Grinnell field are no longer confidential.

The day's limited new permitting activity contrasts with the administrative movement on existing permits, particularly the cluster of cancellations by Oasis in Burke County. The confidential status updates indicate ongoing development planning by operators including Enerplus, Oasis, Koda, and Whiting across the core Bakken counties of Dunn, Williams, Divide, and McKenzie.
