Three New Permits Approved in Mountrail, Williams Counties
EOG, Iron Oil, and Enerplus secure drilling approvals as confidential status changes reveal multi-well activity by Phoenix Operating and XTO.
The North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources approved three new drilling permits on Tuesday, April 14, with activity split between the prolific Mountrail and Williams County regions, according to the agency's daily activity report.
Two permits were issued in Mountrail County's Parshall field. EOG Resources received permit #42840 for the Parshall 441-0218H well. Iron Oil Operating, LLC secured permit #42841 for the Sickle 1-14-2H well. The third permit, #42842, was granted to Enerplus Resources USA Corporation for the Orcas State 5601 13-4 2B well, located in Williams County's Tyrone field.
Beyond new permits, the report detailed confidential status changes for eight existing permits, revealing upcoming drilling activity by several operators. Phoenix Operating LLC is preparing a significant five-well project in Williams County's Big Stone field. The company moved permits #41871, #41942, #41943, #41944, and #41945 for the Goodnight 22-15 wells (1H-LL, 2H, 3H, 4H, and 5H) out of confidential status. All five wells are located in SW SW 22-159N-98W.
XTO Energy Inc also moved two permits to a non-confidential status. Permits #41800 and #41801 for the GBU Athena 31X-3F and 31X-3C wells, located on Lot 2 in 3-154N-96W of Williams County's Grinnell field, were listed. Additionally, Hunt Oil Company's permit #40634 for the Oakland 154-89-30-19H-1 well in Mountrail County's Parshall field (NW NW 32-154N-89W) had its status changed.
The day's activity underscores continued investment in core Bakken counties. Mountrail County, home to the high-producing Parshall field, saw new permits from a major player in EOG and a smaller operator in Iron Oil, alongside status updates for Hunt. Williams County activity was spread across the Tyrone, Grinnell, and Big Stone fields, with a new Enerplus permit and multi-well developments from XTO and Phoenix Operating moving forward.
