DMR Approves 2 New Permits, Oasis and Hess Lead Activity

Burlington Resources and Oasis secure new drilling approvals as three confidential Oasis wells are released.

The North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources approved two new drilling permits in filings dated Wednesday, September 9, 2026, according to the daily activity report. The agency also processed three permit renewals and a series of confidential status changes.

The two approved permits were issued to Burlington Resources Oil & Gas Company LP and Oasis Petroleum North America LLC. Burlington Resources received permit #43292 for the Stortroen 3A-MBH-R well in SE SW 7-151N-96W, located in McKenzie County's confidential 'CONFIDENTIAL' field. Oasis Petroleum North America LLC was granted permit #43293 for the Chang 4595 42-19 6B well in SW SE 19-145N-95W, in Dunn County's Murphy Creek field.

Three existing permits were renewed. Foundation Energy Management, LLC renewed permit #33867 for the Audrey 3526 2H well in Golden Valley County's Beaver Creek field. Hess Bakken Investments II, LLC renewed two permits, #42319 and #42320, for the RS-Holland-157-92-3624H-2 and RS-Holland-157-92-3624H-3 wells, respectively. Both Hess wells are located outside of a spacing unit in Mountrail County's Cottonwood field.

The report detailed several changes to well confidentiality status, predominantly involving Oasis Petroleum. Three Oasis wells—#32946 (Ceynar 5198 11-5 2BX), #33239 (Muri 5198 12-4 8T), and #34037 (Aagvik 5298 41-35 3BX)—all located in McKenzie County, had their statuses updated. A fourth Oasis well, #41868 (Dolls Daisy 5301 31-31 2BX) in McKenzie County's Indian Hill field, was also listed.

In a notable disclosure, a Hess well was released from confidential status. Permit #41541 for the GO-Haug-156-98-3031H-2 well in Williams County is no longer listed as confidential.

The filings highlight continued administrative activity by major Bakken operators. Oasis Petroleum was the most active company in the report, involved in one new permit and four confidentiality status updates across McKenzie and Dunn counties. Hess Bakken Investments II also showed sustained activity with two permit renewals and one confidentiality release. The new permit for Burlington Resources indicates ongoing interest in the core McKenzie County region.
