North Dakota's active drilling rig count held at 37 on Monday after two rigs entered the field and two were removed, according to Bakken Wire rig data. The day-over-day total was unchanged, but the composition shifted across Dunn, McKenzie and Mountrail counties, with two additional rigs repositioned within the state.

According to the data, two new rigs were added since yesterday: DAKOTA FLUID SOLUTIONS, LLC listed T&S DRILLING 3 at 147-97-2 in Dunn County, and KRAKEN OPERATING, LLC listed T&S DRILLING 1 at 147-99-32 in McKenzie County.

The two rigs removed were NABORS B21, listed under HUNT OIL COMPANY at 156-90-13 in Mountrail County, and H & P 259, listed under EOG RESOURCES, INC. at 157-90-31, also in Mountrail County.

Two rigs moved locations, according to the data. DEVON ENERGY WILLISTON, L.L.C. relocated NABORS B17 to 149-91-18 in Dunn County. CONTINENTAL RESOURCES, INC. moved PATTERSON 288 to 156-95-36 in Williams County. Both moved rigs remained in North Dakota.

The Monday count was one rig higher than the 36 active rigs reported a week earlier, on Oct. 19, and eight rigs higher than the 29 active rigs reported a month earlier, on Sept. 26. The weekly increase came despite two removals and two additions, while the month-over-month gain reflects a higher level of North Dakota drilling activity than in late September.

Regionally, North America added three rigs week on week, according to Rigzone, which cited Baker Hughes' latest North America rotary rig count. The continental increase provides context for North Dakota's modest weekly gain, though the Bakken Wire data does not identify which of the North American additions are located in the state.

For Bakken operators and royalty owners, the rig report shows activity concentrated in Dunn, McKenzie and Mountrail counties, with Williams County receiving a moved rig. The day-over-day changes include two additions, two removals and two relocations, leaving the active count unchanged at 37 while shifting the location mix.

The Bakken formation is North Dakota's primary oil-producing region, and rig counts are closely watched as a measure of development activity. The latest data shows T&S Drilling rigs added by Dakota Fluid Solutions and Kraken Operating, while Hunt Oil and EOG Resources removed rigs in Mountrail County.

The additions in Dunn and McKenzie counties were matched by removals in Mountrail County, leaving the statewide total unchanged. The moves by Devon Energy Williston and Continental Resources kept rigs working within North Dakota. For royalty owners, the unchanged count means the same number of rigs are active statewide, but the locations and operators in the field changed.

Bakken Rig Count Holds at 37, Up Eight from September

The number of active drilling rigs in North Dakota's oil fields held steady at 37 on Monday, October 26, 2026, according to Bakken Wire live data. There were no new rigs added, no rigs removed, and no rigs that moved location since the previous report. The current count represents a slight increase of one rig from the level of one week ago, when 36 rigs were active. More notably, the rig count is up by eight from the 29 rigs reported one month ago on September 26. This sustained higher level of activity underscores the ongoing economic importance of the Bakken formation to the region. The financial impact of drilling extends beyond oil companies to local landowners. According to a recent report from Bing News, the Bakken boom has brought significant financial shifts for farmers in the region, with mineral rights proving pivotal. North Dakota rig count holds at 37 after weekly gain

North Dakota's active drilling rig count stood at 37 on Sunday, according to the latest rig count data. The count was unchanged from the previous day, with no new rigs reported, no rigs removed and no rigs moving location since the prior day. The steady day-over-day reading leaves the state at a higher baseline than it held a week earlier. One week ago, North Dakota had 36 active rigs, meaning the count has risen by one over the past seven days. The longer trend is more pronounced: one month ago, the state had 30 active rigs, a gain of seven rigs over the past four weeks. The data show zero new rigs since the previous day, zero rigs removed and zero rigs that moved location. That means the day-over-day movement was entirely flat, even as the weekly and monthly comparisons show increases. For Bakken operators, the unchanged Sunday count suggests...

North Dakota Rig Count Holds at 37 for Second Consecutive Day

The number of active drilling rigs in North Dakota held steady at 37 on Saturday, October 24, 2026, according to live data from Bakken Wire. The count showed no change from the previous day, with no new rigs added, none removed, and none relocated. The current level represents a consistent uptick in drilling activity over recent weeks. One week ago, on October 17, the state's rig count stood at 36. The current count of 37 rigs also marks a significant increase from one month prior; on September 24, there were only 30 active rigs operating across North Dakota, meaning activity has risen by seven rigs over that four-week period. The stability at the 37-rig level suggests operators are maintaining their current drilling programs amidst prevailing commodity prices and operational conditions. The Bakken formation remains North Dakota's primary oil-producing region, and rig activity is a leading indicator of future production. A...
