The North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources approved three new drilling permits yesterday, October 27, 2026, according to its Daily Activity Report. The approvals, alongside a significant batch of permit renewals and status changes, signal continued operational planning by major Bakken operators.

The newly permitted wells include one in Williams County, one in Divide County, and one in McKenzie County. Oasis Petroleum North America LLC received approval for the Iverson Federal 5404 11-35 2B well in the Painted Woods field of Williams County. Petro-Hunt, L.L.C. was approved for a confidential well, Joyce 160-98-4B-16-1H, in Divide County. Whiting Oil and Gas Corporation also secured a permit for a confidential well, Knute Federal 5104 34-24 2B, in McKenzie County.

Permit renewal activity was dominated by Devon Energy Williston, L.L.C., which successfully renewed five permits. All five are for the Sorenson pad in Mountrail County's Alger field, specifically in Section 29-155N-92W. The renewed permits—#41206 through #41210—are for the Sorenson 29-32 XW 1TFH, 5TFH, 6TFH, 7TFH, and 8H wells. The DMR report notes each renewal is for a "proposed drillback outside of spacing unit."

Additional information in the report listed three more wells where confidential status was changed or updated, all effective yesterday. Two are operated by Devon Energy: the Barbara 31-30F 2TFH in McKenzie County's Grinnell field and the Owan Trust North 29-28-27F 1H in Williams County's Painted Woods field. The third is Slawson Exploration Company, Inc.'s Warlock Federal 1-15-13H in Mountrail County's Kittleson Slough field.

The daily report highlights ongoing administrative and preparatory work across the core Bakken production area. Devon Energy's activity, encompassing five renewals and two confidential status updates, points to sustained development planning on specific pads in Mountrail, McKenzie, and Williams counties. The new permits for Oasis, Petro-Hunt, and Whiting indicate fresh drilling plans are advancing in key northwestern North Dakota counties.

No New Permits, Completions Filed with ND DMR Sunday

The North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources (DMR) daily activity report for Sunday, October 25, contained no new permit applications, completion reports, spud notices, or plugging records. The daily report, a key snapshot of regulatory activity in the state's oil fields, typically lists new drilling permits issued, wells reported as completed, wells that have started drilling (spudded), and wells that have been plugged.
