State regulators also renew 14 permits and cancel five as operators adjust plans across the Bakken.
The North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources approved seven new drilling permits in its latest daily activity report, with Devon Energy Williston L.L.C. securing the largest single project.
Devon received approval for four permits (#43440 through #43443) for the "Stranded Cat" pad, consisting of the 1H, 2H, 3H, and 4H wells. All are located in Williams County's Squires field, according to the DMR report.
Other new permits went to Koda Resources Operating LLC and XTO Energy Inc. Koda was approved for two permits in Divide County: #42588 for the ALE 2335-6BH and #42595 for the ALE 2335-4BHN. XTO Energy received permit #42875 for the Nautilus Federal 33X-19G-N well in Dunn County.
The DMR also processed 14 permit renewals, indicating operators are moving forward with existing plans. Spotted Hawk Development, LLC renewed six permits (#38103 through #38108) for its "Buffalo" project in McLean County's Deep Water Creek Bay field. The filings note each renewal is for a "confidential" location outside of a spacing unit.
Silver Hill Energy Operating, LLC renewed permit #41256 in Burke County's North Tioga field, while Petro-Hunt, L.L.C. renewed two permits (#42448 and #42449) for its "Jensen" project in Mountrail County's East Tioga field. These renewals also cited locations outside of standard spacing units.
Five permits were canceled in the report. Spotted Hawk Development canceled three older permits in McLean County: #29569 (Rocky 24-30H), #29570 (Mufasa 24-30H), and #31111 (Luke Neset 22-31H). Hess Bakken Investments II, LLC canceled two permits in Williams County: #41711 and #41714 for wells on the SC-Scanlan pad.
The new permit activity highlights continued development across the core Bakken region, with Williams, Divide, and Dunn counties all seeing fresh approvals. The four-well pad by Devon represents a significant commitment to the Squires field area.
