DMR Approves Six New Permits, Burlington Resources Dominates Filing Day
The company secured five confidential permits in a single McKenzie County section, while Hunt Oil also received a new approval.
The North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources approved six new drilling permits in its latest daily activity report, with Burlington Resources Oil & Gas Company LP accounting for the majority of filings.
Burlington Resources received five permits, all targeting the confidential "Sagebrush" project within the same section in McKenzie County. The permits are for the HBU Sagebrush 10S MBH, 5N MBH, 11S MBH, 6N MBH, and 12S MBH wells, all located in Section 23-148N-98W. According to the DMR report, these permits are all designated for a 'CONFIDENTIAL' field, shielding specific details from public release.
The sixth permit issued was to Hunt Oil Company for the Frazier 161-97-10-12H-1 well in Divide County. The well is located in the SW NW of Section 10-161N-97W within the established Frazier field.
Beyond new permits, the DMR report included several updates to existing well filings. Silver Hill Energy Operating, LLC, updated the designation for its Haustveit Federal 155-95-12-13-4MBH well in Williams County.
Formentera Operations, LLC, revised three permits for its "Jackson" project in Burke County. The updates changed the well names for the JACKSON-08-32-PGN S513HF, S615HF, and S517HF wells, all located in Section 08-162N-94W.
In McKenzie County, Phoenix Operating LLC updated the filings for a four-well "Brenda Fed" pad. The wells, numbered 1H through 4H in Section 32-146N-98W, had their names revised from a "Brenda" to a "Brenda Fed" designation, according to the report.
The activity underscores continued administrative and planning work by operators across the core Bakken region, with a particular concentration in McKenzie County. The high number of confidential permits for a single operator in a tight geographical area often indicates the planning phase for a significant new multi-well drilling campaign.
