A prolonged closure of the Strait of Hormuz would trigger significant alarm for global oil markets, a concern directly relevant to Bakken crude prices and export competitiveness, according to a commodities analyst. SEB Chief Commodities Analyst Bjarne Schieldrop stated that "alarm bells will ring loudly" if the critical shipping channel does not reopen during May, Rigzone reported Monday. The Strait is a major conduit for Middle Eastern crude, and any extended disruption typically increases global price volatility, which directly impacts the value of Bakken oil.
Meanwhile, two major renewable energy project announcements highlight the continued global investment shift toward alternatives. In Ukraine, agribusiness Kernel secured a $45-million loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development for a 106 MW solar farm supported by energy storage in southern Ukraine, Rigzone reported. Separately, TotalEnergies and its local partners agreed to proceed with a $1.2-billion onshore wind plus battery energy storage system project in Kazakhstan, capable of powering 1 million people, according to a separate Rigzone report.
