Single New Permit Issued as Koda, Foundation Lead Renewals
The North Dakota DMR approved one new drilling permit and renewed sixteen, with activity concentrated in Divide and McKenzie counties.
The North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources approved one new drilling permit for Friday, October 30, 2026, according to the agency's daily activity report. All other filing activity consisted of permit renewals and cancellations.
The sole new permit was issued to Koda Resources Operating, LLC for the ALE 2335-2BHN well in Divide County's East Goose Lake field. The permit number is 43444.
The report showed significant renewal activity, with sixteen permits extended. Foundation Energy Management, LLC was the most active, securing renewals for five wells in McKenzie County's Cinnamon Creek field. The renewed permits are for the Trotter State 145-102-23-14-1H, Trotter State 145-102-23-14-3H, Trotter Federal 145-102-26-35-1H, Trotter Federal 145-102-26-35-2H, and Trotter Federal 145-102-26-35-3H wells. All five are noted as a "location outside of spacing unit."
Koda Resources Operating, LLC also renewed eight permits for its Bock project in Divide County's Daneville field. The renewed permits are for the Bock 1732-1BHN, 1732-2BHN, 1732-3BHN, and 1732-4BHN wells, along with the Bock 1534-1BHN, 1534-2BHN, 1534-3BHN, and 1534-4BHN wells. All eight are listed as a "proposed drillback outside of spacing unit."
Murex Petroleum Corporation had one permit renewal for the DD-Garrett Jay 31-32H MB well in Burke County's Tioga field, also noted as a "proposed drillback outside of spacing unit."
Two permits were cancelled, both belonging to XTO Energy Inc. The cancelled permits are for the Harley Federal 44X-15H and Harley Federal 44X-15C wells, located in McKenzie County.
In confidential status changes, a filing was made for Hess Bakken Investments II, LLC's GO-BARB-157-97-3523H-5 well in Williams County's Ray field.
The day's filings indicate continued administrative activity for several operators, particularly Koda Resources in Divide County and Foundation Energy in McKenzie County, as they maintain permits for future drilling projects. The single new permit points to a slow day for new approval activity.
